When I first landed in Kenya, I knew this was going to be my home, a sixth sense, karma? My dream had always been to build a hotel. So many of us have felt the call of Africa, but to realize my dream as a single European woman in Kenya it has been an amazing adventure. On the way I met a Man on Diani beach and together we completed Sonrisa, our home.Come have a “Dawa” with me and share our adventures and experiences of this amazing journey.
Jambo! After being raised in the African bush, hunting walking and fishing, raising and breeding Ostriches and other wildlife, operating safaris in Eastern central and Southern Africa, building camps, I finally put root, on one of most beautiful beaches on the Eastern African coast. With a Girl I met on that beach and together we live at, and run Sonrisa as an extension of our home.
We Invite you to Hotel Sonrisa, with only eight rooms, its personal, private and has a lovely beautiful karma about it. So be our guests, come take our dogs for a walk on the beach, or go on Safari, and share our beautiful home. Welcome! Karibuni!
Iwona and Asad
Hotel Sonrisa is located just on the beach called Galu Kinondo, next to Diani Beach village at the South Coast of Indian Ocean, 35km south from Mombasa.
Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya and one of the deepest harbors in the world. This is also one of the oldest people’s habitat in the eastern Africa. The available historical documents indicate that human beings have been leaving here since 2000 years at least. The city of Mombasa lies on the coral island of area 230sq km. Ethnically Mombasa is very rich with the major influence of Asians and Arab culture. Fifty mosques, dozens of Hindu and Singh temples give to the city an oriental climate. However, for majority of the city habitants Swahili is their mother tongue and Swahili culture strongly decides about Mombasa cultural difference from the remaining part of the country.
There are regular flights from Nairobi to Diani Beach (flight from Wilson Nairobi airport) by: Air Kenya, Safarilink and Sax. This is the most convenient connection with the capital of the country. Moi International Airport in Mombasa is the option for overseas flights as it will provide visa and custom clearance. Transfer from Mombasa to Sonrisa will take from 1.5 up to 3 hrs depending on the traffic on the ferry connecting the island with the mainland.
